Southern California is one of the most highly populated regions in the nation, and the cities throughout the area are notorious for busy roadways and highways. Busy roadways and highways lead to lots of traffic, delays, and other problems.

Unfortunately, the large number of vehicles on the roadways and highways present a number of potential dangers for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Practicing safe driving, proper planning, and patience can help motorists avoid a potential crash.

Plan Your Routes Accordingly

Before you leave for your destination, you should check your routes to determine when to leave so that you are not in a rush. Driving in a rush is dangerous and, often times, avoidable. Google Maps, Waze, and other smart phone applications have tools to help you plan your trip. In advance, you can know when to leave to get to your destination on time, and you can even set reminders on your phone with traffic and weather updates so you are not in a rush.

Keep Your Distance When Behind Other Vehicles

Busy roadways and highways often have sudden changes in traffic, requiring extra caution. Even if you are a safe driver, it can be nearly impossible to avoid rear ending someone if you fail to keep a proper distance behind the vehicle in front of you. In order to keep yourself and others safe, always leave plenty of room between your vehicle and traffic in front of you so you have extra time to react. Resist the temptation to “close the gap” so impatient SoCal drivers can’t merge in front of you. It is worth spending a little extra time in traffic to avoid an accident.

Always Stay Alert and Ensure Your Visibility Is Maximized

Always stay focused and look out for other vehicles, obstacles, and pedestrians. Put your phone away! Make all the necessary adjustments to your mirrors, air conditioner, and radio before you hit the road. Doing so helps you avoid the distractions that can cause serious car accidents.

Unfortunately, the busy roads of SoCal are filled with distracted and unsafe drivers. In Los Angeles, there are tens of thousands of crashes that occur annually. If you are seriously injured by a careless driver, then you have rights.

Our Agoura Hills car accident attorneys work hard to represent you when you have suffered a serious injury because of someone’s carelessness. Trust that with Effres & Effres, your rights matter and our primary focus is your best interest.
